TikTok Star’s Family Causes Drama Online

By Bryn Fawn

TikTok has become the most popular video application, surpassing the likes of YouTube. With thousands of eyes on the application at any given time, it has easily created mega-stars and mega-drama.

Addison Rae is one of those incredibly popular influencers, yet she is not the subject of online chatter as of late. Her mother and father have become mini-celebrities, all thanks to the recently popular rapper Yung Gravy.

Matthew Raymond Hauri, stage name Yung Gravy, gained traction through TikTok. Gravy’s music was made popular with many dances and trends, gaining him 13,822,150 monthly listeners on Spotify.

Some of Gravy’s popular songs include: Betty, Gravy Train, yup!, oops!!! and Mr. Clean.

Rae is only 21 years-old and gained popularity on TikTok in 2021. Rae’s parents are Sheri Easterling and Monty Lopez. Easterling and Lopez have become stars of their own as of late. The couple separated after video evidence was released of Lopez on FaceTime touching another woman.

After the separation, Easterling began flirting with Gravy online. Easterling even posted a TikTok where she baked biscuits for Gravy. It appeared the original responses from Gravy were mere jokes, but with later actions it is now uncertain where their relationship stands.

“You know, I’m from the furthest north it gets and she’s from the furthest south it gets. I’m into MILFs [Mother I’d Like to F—k] and she’s kind of the queen of MILFs, so I figured it was just the perfect match,” Gravy told MTV.

The flirtation caught the attention of Lopez, who went to TikTok and Twitter to provoke the rapper.

Lopez promptly released several videos on TikTok speaking about his ex-wife and Gravy. It began with Lopez offering a boxing match with Gravy — an increasingly popular way to settle “beef.” Gravy responded with a TikTok of his own, stating: “I’m a grown man. I’m not going to fight you over TikTok drama. You’ve got one of the most successful daughters in the world, and you decide to act half her age to try and get some attention while embarrassing your whole family.”

Lopez made a response, but it was more taunting toward Gravy. Lopez made several more TikTok posts, many of which have commenters mocking Lopez or calling him immature. Some commenters say that Lopez is not over his separation from Easterling.

Gravy made an appearance at MTV’s Video Music Awards Aug. 28. It was on the photo runway that he was seen with Easterling in tow. They wore matching outfits, Gravy wore a suit with a lavender dress shirt inside, and Easterling wore a slimming lavender cocktail dress. Several photos were snapped of the couple, and even a video of Easterling kissing Gravy on the cheek has gone viral. There also have been photographs of the couple kissing.

It is uncertain if the two are dating, or if this is a publicity stunt.

Lopez did not remain silent. He made his thoughts known on the debacle. He posted a TikTok with the caption “Watching the VMAs” where the music begins uplifting but turns sour, and Lopez grimaces. It is evident that this was about Gravy and Easterling being together that night.

Lopez also posted to his Instagram story thanking Gravy for “taking the leftovers.” He also stated in his story, “I would rather spend time with my daughter and two grandkids. Never let a woman make you choose between her and or your blood child.”

Lopez has since teased and then released a “diss track,” a piece of music meant to insult and disgrace its subject, on Gravy. The song is 1 minute and 31 seconds long and titled “Sidedish.” The song has a part where Lopez says the phrase “jiggle jiggle” eight times almost entirely in a row. The most clever line is “I be dirty dancin’ stealing all your hoes” only because it makes reference to Gravy’s iconic song “Betty.” The original line goes, “I be dirty dancin,’ now they yellin’ ‘Gravy Swaze.’”

With the ex-couple in the eye of the public, many have begun to wonder how Rae feels about the situation. Rae has yet to make a statement on her parents’ affairs. Followers of the drama have shared their disgust for Easterling, Gravy and Lopez’s actions and remorse for the children involved. While Rae is an adult, she has two younger brothers. The brothers are not celebrities themselves, but having their parents’ dirty laundry aired out for millions to see isn’t a delightful thought.

“I will be OK. My biggest concern is — and always will be — my children and their fragile hearts and minds.” Easterling told Page Six, a celebrity gossip publication.
