The men’s and women’s hockey teams will take the ice this season, for the first time since
early. They hope to reclaim their success in the ranks of the SUNYACS once again.
The men’s team is returning after losing in the SUNYAC semi-finals vs rival Oswego in a 1-4 route. The team has four returning players from that playoff team. They hope their team, with lots of new players coming into the fold, will help reenergize the team when they take
on the Castleton Spartans, in Castleton, VT Oct. 15, for an exhibition matchup.
The team will return home for the first first regular season game of the year vs the Plymouth Panthers Oct. 29, and hope this will be the first time fans pool into the Ronald B. Stafford Arena to watch their Cardinals, for the first time since the pandemic started.
“Our fingers are crossed that we will be able to play in front of our fans,” Head Coach Stephen Moffat said. “We have the best fan base in Division III hockey and they always provide a spark for our team. We certainly feel we have a little bit of a home ice advantage
with them behind us.”
The Lady Cardinals are getting their first action since making the NCAA tournament after posting an amazing 26-1 record in the 2019-2020 season. The tournament was cancelled
due to the pandemic. The Lady Cardinals also have 4 remaining players from
that 2019 2020 season. The team plays their first game in an exhibition match vs Saint Michael’s College in Colchester VT. on Friday October 22nd. The team opens up their regular season vs Cortland at home in Ronald B Stafford Arena.
“There is no better place to be in the North Country on a Friday or Saturday night during hockey season than a packed Stafford Arena,” Moffat said. “We can’t wait to hear the student section get loud this year.”
