It was my first date of the summer, and I was excited of the prospects of a summer fling. I was looking forward to having something easy and laid-back.
He picked me up at my house, and we went to the movies followed by the drive thru at Taco Bell. Romantic right?
Well, for me it was great so far. He was sweet, funny and pretty damn cute might I add. And I wasn’t being totally awkward, which was a plus in my book. We pulled into my driveway, and we paused not really sure how to end the night. We sat in silence as Drake’s “One Dance,” played as background noise. He looked over and smiled.
“I had a really nice time,” he said.
“Me too,” I said looking down and smiling.
I nervously looked up as he grabbed my chin. “You’re cute,” he said laughing a bit. I closed my eyes and leaned in for a kiss. It was so good with the exception of the seatbelt that was tugging at my neck.
I freed myself from the seat and laughed. This was supposed to be effortless.
Then he pulled me forward so that I was sitting on his lap in the driver’s seat. Let me just add that I was wearing a loose flowing dress that was riding up my legs.
At first, I leaned back because we were super close in his seat, but then my back pressed against the steering wheel, and the horn honked. I paused, but he didn’t seem to care as he grabbed my head and leaned back in.
We continued to make out in the front seat as his hands got tangled in my hair until he moved his hands slowly down my back.
Suddenly, I felt a snap. I opened my eyes.
It was my thong.
It had snapped.
I sat up straight and patted his hands away without even thinking.
He opened his eyes and held both hands up as if he had been caught for a crime.
“Whoa, sorry,” he stuttered. He leaned back from me, and I quickly got off of him in fear that he’d see the string dangling from my underwear.
“It’s fine,” I said crashing into the passenger seat.
I felt panicked and wanted to leave as soon as possible. “I just remembered that I should be home by now,” I said pushing the car door closed.
He looked so confused. I felt bad. This was not supposed to be so messy.
As I got out of the car, I stupidly held my dress down so that the string wasn’t dangling from my dress. He got out of the car.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
He could clearly notice the beads of sweat starting to form on my head as I laughed like an idiot. I literally had no idea what to say.
“You broke my underwear,” I blurted out letting go of my dress. He looked down to see a little piece of string hanging below my dress. He started to die with laughter.
He held onto the side of his car as he continued to laugh. This was easily the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to me as I watched him laugh at my expense.
He slowly walked over to me and cupped my chin again.
“You’re cute,” he said literally wiping a tear from his face.
You see, I always had the idea of a perfect summer fling to be effortless and easy, but that’s not at all what happened. I’m way too awkward for that.
But all that stuff you see in the movies is completely overrated because what I got was something real.
So whatever comes your way, whether it’s a serious relationship or a quick fling, just embrace all the stumbles because at least it’s something real. Also, never buy cheap underwear for $1.99.
