For their first live performance of the semester, the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir will be taking a trip to Vermont on Saturday Sept. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. for a concert at the Community Bible Church in South Burlington.
The Choir Director at PSUC Andrea Ogle said, “One of the things the gospel choir brings is presenting gospel music in such a professional way and bringing different aspects of gospel and presenting that to the North Country both to the campus and the community.”
Traveling distances does not faze the members of the choir since being on the road is something that happens frequently. They went on tour last year to Caribbean island of St. Martin, did a choir competition in Binghamton last fall and went to Japan in 2003.
Ogle said he is looking forward to the concert this weekend.“This is going to be the first time that we’re taking our full band and full choir. Most of our band members are from Vermont, so this is really special to them,” she said.
The choir has been getting a lot of media attention over in Vermont via newspapers and word of mouth, so they are expecting a large turnout. “All groups of the Gospel Choir, the step team, the praise dancers and the praise team, which is a small ensemble, will be featured on this night,” Ogle said.
Since the semester has just started and there are a lot of new students, the 75-member choir will be doing most of their songs from their popular concert, GospelFest they held in May.
Joy Che, a member of the gospel choir said the new members have been taking a “crash course” in the choir and are going full speed ahead. They have learned up to eleven songs in just four weeks, redefining the word dedication.
“What I love about the choir is that it is receptive to everybody, and there is no cultural barrier.
We try to work as a family and just enjoy this genre of music rather than having a perception of it,” Che said.
