Ulta Beauty opens in Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh’s long awaited new beauty destination is finally here. Ulta Beauty, the one-stop beauty shop, will open its doors to the public today for this weekend’s grand opening.

Prior to the grand opening, Ulta held a soft opening on Feb. 15 and remained opened until this weekend.

The store is located in the Plattsburgh Consumer Plaza, next to T.J. Maxx and Carters. It will be the first independent beauty store for the area, and is expected to bring in major traffic.

In addition to the Ulta Beauty opening, Sephora, the beauty store located inside JcPenney, will soon be celebrate it’s one year anniversary since opening in May 2018.

Plattsburgh State senior political science major Danica McBain has been employed at Ulta since late January. Most employees are new to the store and have been trained together prior to the opening.

“I think one difficulty was getting the store up and running on schedule… also getting enough employees to work in the store and figuring out scheduling for at least 30 people,” McBain said.

Richard E. George, the founder of Ulta Beauty, opened the first store in 1990. The chain now has over 1,000 different locations. Ulta sells over 500 beauty brands and over 200,000 different products.

“We carry classic brands such as Clinique, trendy brands like Morphe and many drug store brands as well,” McBain said.

These drug store brands range from Maybelline and L’Oréal. Ulta also has its own cosmetics brand.

“I’m so glad Ulta is opening here,” Nicole Liebowtiz, freshman TV production major, said. “I can get a great mixture of high brand makeup but also the drug store makeup that we know and love. They have skin, hair and makeup products all in one store making it convenient to shop.”

The Plattsburgh Ulta won’t just be selling makeup products. It will also provide a list of salon services including hair, skin and even brow appointments.

“Ulta offers a lot of professional services I think Plattsburgh lacks as of right now,” McBain said. “The store offers low-high end products, the Benefit Brow Bar, which I can’t wait to utilize, and hair services.”

Ulta also sells beauty tools such as hair dryers, straighteners, nail products and other accessories. According to the Press Republican article, Ulta is hiring a licensed cosmetologist and will offer in-store haircuts, all-over color, styling and more.

On top of everything they offer, they sell men’s products as well.

Ranging from skincare, grooming, cologne and more; Ulta Beauty has it.

The Press Republican also reported that Ulta will have a licensed dermatologist that can provide one-on-one sessions to examine the skin.

Ashley Velardi, a PSUC education major, is excited about the opening. “Ulta Beauty is one of my favorite go-to beauty stores at home, so for it to finally be coming to Plattsburgh has me so excited.”

During the grand opening of the store, Ulta will be giving away, to the first 100 shoppers, gift bags that contain products ranging from $5 to $100 in value.

“Ulta will hopefully improve the knowledge and love for beauty in this area,” McBain said. “There has already been so much buzz about it’s opening. I can’t even imagine how many people will be coming to the store in the upcoming weeks.”
