The Student Association approved the African Unity Club for $1500 and discussed how to go about restructuring the Student Association and move forward.

African Unity had its budget reduced by 25% for the fall 2025 semester. As a result the club needed extra allocations for their annual Ubunye event, one of the club’s bigger events each semester. The club’s Ubunye event has been held for the past 10 to 15 years.

The club has four big events throughout the academic year. The theme for the Ubunye event this semester is a wedding celebration.

“Ubunye is a storytelling event that African Unity has had for the past 10 to 15 years,” President of African Unity Khoriya Deh said. “This year we’re incorporating Guinea and Ghana, so just bringing that together and kind of really emphasizing on the unique aspect of our club’s mission.”

The Student Association Senate approved the $1500 for African Unity in a unanimous vote.

At the executive meeting members of the SA discussed forming a committee to help reorganize the SA for better efficiency in the future. A conversation that has been ongoing over the course of multiple meetings this semester.

“You guys have talked about reorganizing a few times so you guys should create a committee of variety with exec, senate, and other students as well. It should be a mix of everyone,” Advisor Sarah Mccarty said.
