The Student Association approved SUNY Plattsburgh senior Shawna Wright as a Senator, and unanimously approved Lydia Austin as the new adviser of the Student Association Sep. 2. The executive board began the planning of a pep rally on campus Aug. 31.
Wright has been a part of the Student Associations Activities Coordination Board since Fall 2025.
“I’m the leader of the athletics section of ACB,” Wright said. “I hope to bring more of a community space and more people to the student association.”
Austin graduated from SUNY Canton in May and was approved as a new adviser to the SA, replacing Tyler Hargraves who left at the end of the spring 2026 semester. Sarah Mccarty is the other Adviser for the SA.
“June 3 was my official start date,” Austin said. “So I’ve been around, but I’m really just looking forward to hanging out with and working with all of you.”
Mccarty, at the SA’s executive meeting Aug. 31 said that Austin has been a great addition to the team and that she has been doing a great job connecting with students.
Coordinator of the ACB Juliana Praino updated the executive board about upcoming events that the board is working on.
“We are planning Cardinal Chaos Week which is leading up to the pep rally,” Praino said. “We are also planning 13 Days of Halloween. We are doing a carnival which is like a big haunted house.”
