Student employees to be paid for remainder of semester

Plattsburgh State student employees will continue to be paid for the remainder of the semester, according to an email from Administration and Finance yesterday morning, as a result of the current COVID-19 situation.

All student employees who normally work a set schedule will continue to be paid for that schedule. Those who do not will be paid for the average number of hours worked between the pay periods of Feb. 6 to 19 and Feb. 20 to March 4.

Students who are still required to work for a department on campus can continue to do so either remotely or in person, maintaining social distancing protocols. Working remotely requires the student to have a proper Temporary Alternate Work Location Agreement on file with their respective department.

The agreement requires the employee to disclose their current place of residence where they will work remotely, as well as their employee designation whether they are considered essential or non-essential. According to the agreement, an essential employee is someone who has the inability to come to work “due to a specific COVID-19 related issue,” such as, “child care due to school or daycare closing, elder care support, additional underlying health risks of the employee or member of their immediate household.”

Student employees are advised to continue completing their timesheets within the SUNY HR portal, found in MyPlattsburgh under Student Employment. Students who work more than their set number of scheduled hours will be paid for the actual hours worked. Students who are not working will have their timesheets submitted by their supervisor for an average number of scheduled hours.

However, if a department requires a student to work, and the student is able to do so remotely or in person and chooses not to, the student will not be paid. Supervisors of student employees are expected to contact their students regarding specific needs and plans. Supervisors should also inform Payroll Services at payrollservices@plattsburgh.edu if a student chooses not to work.

More information on student employment can be found under the COVID-19 Information tab under the Administration and Finance website.
