SA closes semester with final meeting

SUNY Plattsburgh’s Student Association deliberated over permanent and Provisional Club Statuses Wednesday night, alongside the proposal of funds for SSS’s Emergency Food Pantry.

The meeting began with a proposal from Love Your Melon campus crew for permanent club status. The club’s mission is to promote the love of melons through the campus community, while supporting children that are battling cancer. They also aide in inspiring other college students to get involved and to make a difference on campus and in the

Community.

During provisional status, the club supported pediatric cancer awareness month by attending the ‘No More Cancer Rally’ Nov. 9.

An increase in student involved would cause a need for a budget of $800 for t-shirts, office supplies and events. However, the club has gained 20 members, and Love Your Melon anticipates more to join. The proposal was approved by SA for permanent club status.

The next proposal came from the Data Analytics club for Provisional Club Status, by a notion from senators Patell and Nakrani. The club’s goal is to unite students who share a common interest in information systems, data analytics, database and analytical tools to increase knowledge of business professionalism and engagement within extracurricular programs.

The proposal was approved by the SA Board, and the Data Analytics club is now in Provisional status.

The SA Board also discussed the Audit Report and SA Tax Return for the last academic year, a report that ended June 30. The report was quickly approved.

The last motion came from senator Nakrani, pertaining to the approval of $1500 for the campus Student Support Services Emergency Food Pantry. A notion was made to decrease the amount of funding, and in the outcome, the fund was decreased to $500.

“[Students] don’t want to starve,” Nakrani said. “So, that’s why I’m asking for money.”

Therefore, the proposal was approved by SA board. The meeting ended with sending good wishes to all students to do well on finals.
