Mental health in relationships

When it comes to relationships, there is a great amount of trust that needs to be formed. If you and your partner are going to support each other, then there needs to be honesty to harness the relationship. In Annika Campbell’s article, she discusses the impact that anxiety might have on a relationship. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety is the most common mental illness in the United States. Anxiety is something that is internal. If you’re struggling, it can impact your relationship greatly.

It is important that you try to be as understanding to your partner as possible. That’s why communication is so key in making a relationship work, whether it’s at a friend or romantic level.
If you deal with anxiety, then maybe consider talking to your partner about it. The more you try to hide it, the more stressful it will be and, eventually, it will affect the relationship negatively.
Chances are that being honest won’t be a deal breaker, and it will probably allow your partner to understand why you do certain actions or react with certain emotions.

Patience is a part of relationships. If you’re dealing with someone who struggles with anxiety, try to put yourself in his or her shoes. Try doing some research and showing your partner that you are more than willing to understand the mental illness. And don’t make them feel bad for having the mental illness. Part of a relationship is dealing with and supporting each other no matter what, so show your partner you care.
