First round of presidential candidates visit campus with new ideas

Presidential Candidate one plans to broaden the horizons of current SUNY Plattsburgh students, new students and incoming students.

Laura Niesen De Abruna is currently the provost for York College of Pennsylvania. During the forum, De Abruna expressed her concern for students seeking higher education. De Abruna is a firm believer in cyberlearning. It provides students with materials so there would be no need for textbooks and offers more to ensure understanding. She said it would definitely be used for math courses.

“There are 15 different majors that students are blocked from because they are not good at math,” De Abruna said. “That’s a shame.”

Her goal as president would be to help under-privileged students pursue and finish their higher education. She says higher education is the gateway to good jobs.

“All individuals deserve to succeed,” De Abruna said.

Her plans also include enforcing an emergency financial aid plan for students who have holds on their accounts. This  would prevent financial troubles from harming a student’s education.

De Abruna plans to make students her priority. As president, she would make it her mission to remain present on campus.

Presidential candidates will continue to visit campus for the next three weeks. Visit Plattsburgh.edu for information about forum times and candidate resumes. Candidates three and four will visit campus next week
