EIC appreciates lessons learned

College is supposed to teach you so many things throughout the years, like how to get away with skipping laundry day, how many hours it actually takes to write a ten page paper and how many days a week you can go out with your friends while still functioning at a productive level.

These are just a few lessons I expected to learn while I was a college student. What I didn’t expect is where I ended up after these four years at Plattsburgh State.

I joined the Cardinal Points staff the fall semester of my junior year after contributing the semester before. The people I met, worked with and developed relationships with became my family. They were the people I spent so many of days of my college life surrounded by watching how long R. Kelly could be “Trapped in a closet.”

As time went on, we grew as writers and editors and learned what it would take to get through the toughest times of our college career, all while getting some relief from things we liked to call “not beer” and “Yannick Kev Clay.” We leaned on each other for support in good times and in bad, and I couldn’t have asked for better, more genuine people to be a part of my memories.

CP has not only taught me how to report, write, edit, design and teach others the same, but it has taught me how to step up and be leader in some of the most crucial times I have ever faced.

Without Cardinal Points, college would have had more short school days, more time to spend with friends outside of the department and more time to do laundry, but I wouldn’t be the person I am today without it. I am grateful for every second of every day I had the chance to work with other editors and writers and create a paper that will always hold a special place in my heart.
