Editorial: Keeping ‘green’ constant

Earth Day is all about celebrating the planet we live on and how we need to work to protect it now and in the future. Last Friday, April 22, was Earth Day, and Plattsburgh State celebrated and educated the campus during Earth Week.

In staff writer Shania Savastio’s story, “PSUC hosts EcoFest,” there were events throughout the week to help promote making the planet a cleaner and more environmentally-friendly place.

“‘A lot of people are neglectful of anything other than their daily surroundings, so it’s important to have a day, a week, to put this ahead of that for once in a while,’ PSUC Campus Dining Sustainability Intern Rachael Greminger said.”

It’s true. People’s daily lives get in the way of consciously thinking about keeping the place we all live an environment we need to preserve for future generations.

People need to remember that. What actions we take now will have a heavy impact on the future of this planet. This doesn’t just mean on one day, or one week, of the year. We have to make being green a constant.

Recycling bottles and cans in the proper receptacles, not throwing out paper and turning off the lights are only a few steps in the right direction. The smallest actions add up.

Going beyond Earth Week, we should remember this is our home, or children’s home, their children’s and further. If not for ourselves, we should be green for them.
