Doyle leads Cards to 23rd place

Freshman Nathan Doyle continued his impressive season Saturday morning at Genesee Valley State Park, as he ran to a 28th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Cross-Country Regionals.

Doyle covered the course in 25:51.7. He was the first freshman to cross the line and earned a spot on the All-Atlantic Region team.

Led by Doyle’s finish, the Cardinals registered a 23rd- place finish among 41 competing teams. St. Lawrence will took the title of Atlantic Region chamions after gathering 63 points, with Geneseo and Cortland taking second and third respectively for the meet.

Aside from Doyle, six other PSUC athletes took part in the meet and helped the Cards to their finish. Taking part in his second regional meet, sophomore Ethan vinson sped along at a pace of 5:28 per mile and finished in 105th place with a time of 27:08.1, improving from his last year’s finish of 187th place.

Junior Zach Rose was the next Card to cross the line finishing in 163rd with a time of 28:10.2. Fellow junior Christian Whalen was the final PSUC competitor to place in the top 200, finishing in 189th with a time of 28:45.1.

Doyle is the only PSUC student-thlete who has a chance to represent the Cards at the 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s Cross-Country Championships. The runners for the meet will be announced by the NCAA on Sunday at 2 p.m.
