Top runners lead team this season

With the season over, the Plattsburgh State cross-country teams have time to reflect on two of their most valuable players of the season.

Head coach Andrew Krug had a lot of positive words to say about both senior Katie Ehmann and freshman Nathan Doyle and their time with the team this season.

Doyle said he accomplished many things running in his first year at PSUC.

Doyle describes his best quality as being a teammate who is ambitious. He hopes that next year he will get the honor to go to nationals.

“Nathan’s best quality is to be hungry to race and just go after it,” Krug said.

Krug described Doyle as a talented athlete and as one of those competitors that wants to run a gutsy race. He said they knew Doyle was going to come in as a strong competitor.

Krug said he is excited to see a person who has guts to go out there and take the lead of the race. Even with his strong start, Krug said Doyle is still a work in progress.

With Doyle being a freshman, Krug said there are high expectations for him next season.

“I expect him to take what he experienced this season and take it into next season,” Krug said. “I look for him to train a little smarter and harder so he can do big things.”

Ehmann said her best qualities are being dedicated and being a hardworking student and runner.

“I am really driven for what I do, and I know if I work hard to get something, I will get the results that I want,” Ehmann said. “I really just do what I need to do to get the level that I want to be at.”

Ehmann has a lot to say when it comes to missing her teammates next year.

“I’m going to miss the support that they bring and how caring they are,” Ehmann said. “I honestly can’t think of one single thing. I know that I’m going to miss everything about the team.”

The best moment that Ehmann describes is how far she came. Ehmann said she started as one of the weak runners on the team and grew into one of the best.

“She went from our worst girl to one of our top seven runners in her sophomore year,” Krug said. “She is a success story, for someone who put in hard work and maintained it, and just had goals to improve and be one of our top women.”

Knowing that Ehmann will not be returning to the team next season, Krug will miss the positive aura that she brings to the team.

Ehmann and Doyle both performed at the highest caliber this year, being the best runners on the team.
