Take advantage of all opportunities available

From a college student who wanted to cover baseball to honorable mention in photography from the New York Press Association, my time here at Cardinal Points has been life -changing.

When I joined Cardinal Points, I joined as a photographer because I was not confident enough in my writing, who knew it get me to where I am today: photo editor for three semesters and plenty of friends for a lifetime.

I didn’t even want to take photos, I just added a photo minor because I thought taking photos was easy! Boy was I wrong.

For anyone reading this, I have been working for Cardinal Points for three years, from sophomore year to where I am now.

I see the blood, sweat and tears the editors put into the paper for students to read. Yes, we will have our disagreements of discussions on issues for the paper, but in the end we work together to put out one hell of a newspaper.

From graphics, writing, photos, video, design and more, all these things make the paper.

And this is one damn fine paper.

For any past and future editors who read this, don’t feel like you wasted your time working for Cardinal Points. This paper does make a difference, albeit maybe small, but your job isn’t to please everyone, your job is to make a difference to the Plattsburgh community and the people who inhabit it.

You’d be surprised at the difference you make in the community. I know I was.

Anyway, I guess I should start saying goodbye to everyone I know, but that’s too many people and I doubt I even have the space to fit it. Too many generations of editors I’ve become close with and too many people I have known throughout my years here.

I don’t think a sentence or two for each person is fair as every one of them has had an impact on who I am today and to the paper.

God, I sound like a Cardinal Points senior/veteran.

I’m a simple man, so I will keep mines short and sweet.

Plus there are seven other goodbye columns that have to be filled by great people who wrote way more for their goodbyes than I will.

I will say one thing, though.

Thank you.

Thank you everyone who has helped me improve my photography from amateur photographer who used to take too many photos to know waiting patiently and building an eye I never knew I had.

Thank you editors for giving me a chance to expand my horizon by letting me write stories for topics I’m passionate about.
Thank you all for giving me the confidence to be myself in front of people.

And most importantly, thank you all for the memories and the relationships that have been built around me in the past few years.

These are memories that will never be forgotten and friendships that will last a lifetime.
