Spring commencement pushed to December

President Alexander Enyedi announced that Plattsburgh State’s spring commencement for the class of 2020 will be moved to December to all students in an email Tuesday afternoon.

“As a first generation college graduate, I know what a milestone commencement was in my own life and in the life of my family,” Enyedi wrote. “I deeply understand what graduation means to students, families, friends, and the campus community as a whole. This is why it is important for us to gather and celebrate your accomplishments and success. We want to ensure we do this right.”

Spring commencement will now merge with winter commencement later this year on Dec. 12 because of coronavirus concerns. Enyedi mentioned the possibility of holding an online commencement or one held in the summer, but it was something PSU “could not reasonably do” because of the format and uncertain timing, Enyedi said.

In addition, special events will be scheduled for the class of 2020 during the fall’s homecoming Oct. 16-17. Students who are set to graduate this May will receive their diplomas by mail in the early summer.

Enyedi said more details will be shared as they are developed.
