Single highlights uncertain future

Lana Del Rey released a single titled, “Love” last week with an intergalactic music video to match. Lana Del Rey’s latest album, “Honeymoon,” was released September of 2015, and this single, similarly with the rest of her music, focuses on the dynamic subject of love.

Lana Del Rey usually graces audiences with dreary but intense songs about her experiences with love and questionable emotions. In her single, “Love,” she dives into the feeling of uncertainty in life but how, in the end, it will all work out. We are young and nothing is supposed to make sense.

The song could be seen as a word of advice to young people today who aren’t sure of what’s coming in their uncertain futures. She sings about how we are the future now, and although it seems daunting and not straight forward, we will make it through.

“You’re part of the past but now, you’re the future signals crossing can get confusing,” she sings.

In the music video, Lana Del Rey is featured wearing a signature white, flowing dress that’s extra flowy in the sleeves and white daisies scattered in her long, brown hair. She has always had an attraction for nostalgia in her music videos. She’s singing to a group of young, wide-eyed people in a room when, suddenly, space is the only thing above them. People in cars begin floating through the vast space and other people simply float weightlessly among the mystical looking planets and stars.

The airy and light music video goes along well with the angelic and atmospheric song.

In the chorus, Lana Del Rey sings: “You get ready, you get all dressed up to go nowhere in particular. Back to work or the coffee shop. Doesn’t matter cause it’s enough to be young and in love.”

As the song progresses, Lana Del Rey turns the subject from her audience to herself in the final chorus.

“I get ready I get all dressed up to go nowhere in particular. Doesn’t matter if I’m not enough for the future or the things to come cause I’m young and in love.”

This music features more of Lana Del Rey smiling than any other video she’s put out in her career. As a long-time fan, her music has truly evolved over time. She has expressed all her emotions through her work whether it was being in love, being heartbroken, craving revenge or accepting reality. This song is a beautiful ode to the uncertainty that is life.
