SA Senate approves resolution, allocations

On Wednesday, the Student Association held its 18th session in the Angell College Center’s Cardinal Lounge.
The board approved Resolution number seven, allowing a rainbow to be painted on a campus owned crosswalk, representing the LGBT flag. It will be the Pennsylvania version of the flag, with the newly added brown and black stripes to represent people of color in the LGBT community.
It is a project the SA Vice President of Student Affairs and diversity, Danial Khoshkehpazi has been working to pass since August. He described the project as a way to commemorate a physical space to celebrate members of our community who are not always given a voice or proper representation.
His Student Association position was helpful in the process, as it connected him to people like Vice President for Institutional Advancement Anne Hansen, who helped him through the process of getting the approval of the administration.
Getting the approval of the SA board was the final step in the process when it comes to formalities, as the administration only needed a positive response from the student body to give the proposal the OK.
The funds for Khoshkehpazi’s rainbow crosswalk will come out of his vice presidential budget. The paint job is projected to begin as soon as weather permits.
The Literature Club was approved for up to $185 for copies of a book voted on by members of the club so every member could have a copy available to them.
They projected that the amount they requested will leave $3, with which they will purchase a notebook to keep track of what happens at each club meeting.
Plattsburgh Association of Black Journalists was approved to receive up to $990 to use for an upcoming event the club will be putting on. The club is bringing up two journalists from New York City to speak at a ticketed event for future journalists seeking professional advice.
Hope for Africa was denied their request for $150 that would be used to buy supplies to build sensory boxes for children with autism in Ethiopia.
The rejection was due to slight uncertainty regarding how many boxes would be made as well as a cost that had not been presented originally, for ACC board decorations.
Arcadia was also denied their requested amount of $349 for a Nintendo Switch, a controller and an adapter cable to connect more controllers to the console.
The Physics club requested $750, but due to the fact that there were no members of the club present to represent them, they were not granted the requested funds.
