SA presents end of semester President’s Gala

Plattsburgh State will be hosting their 13th annual President’s Gala on Dec. 2.  The President’s Gala celebrates the end of the semester reserved for faculty, students and staff. This year’s gala is unique because of its creative theme, around the world.The gala will be hosted by Plattsburgh State President John Ettling, and the new president of the student association; Jessica Falace.Plattsburgh State will be hosting their 13th annual President’s Gala on Dec. 2.  The President’s Gala celebrates the end of the semester reserved for faculty, students and staff.

This year’s gala is unique because of its creative theme, around the world.The gala will be hosted by Plattsburgh State President John Ettling, and the new president of the student association; Jessica Falace. “There will be music, dancing, and food,” said Cori Jackson, adviser for activities coordination and director of student involvement. Jackson, who has been the activities advisor for 10 years and has worked for PSUC for 25 years, showed her excitement for this year’s gala. “There will be student entertainment representing different cultures and I encourage people to buy tickets,there will be between 300 to 600 people”, Jackson said. Although the tickets are $10, the revenue goes to student scholarships.

“With the different food stations for different continents and entertainment, the tickets are worth it” she said.Falace said, “last year’s theme was red carpet, and it was very interesting to see the decorations. “I do think the promotion aspect could’ve been better”. She explained how this year, the special events committee tried to be inclusive when doing the around the world theme and include all the students in PSUC. Eve Barnofsky, a senior majoring in public relations and one of the co chairs of the special events committee said “I’ve never been to a president’s gala, which is why I am really excited for this year’s gala.” With the huge expectations for this years gala, what to expect may be a question in which we all want to know.

“You should expect to walk in, and you definitely will not feel like you are in the ballrooms” Falace said. A night full of dancing and cultural food with the help of the international students and students from different backgrounds that are apart of the student association. “I am so excited for the food because you don’t normally get those kinds of foods here on campus,” Barnofsky said. When it comes to the entertainment, there will be more student performances than any other gala previously.

“There will be a lot of diverse performances from different clubs in which I am also excited about” Barnofsky said. Students, faculity and staff  should  expect to see, all of the incoming and current executive members of the student association, as well as the incoming and current senators. Falace said “you will see greek life, vice presidents of the school such as Bryan Hartman, the vice president of student affairs and plenty more people”. With promotion, student association is using social media to mainly get the word out, sharing it on the school’s Facebook page and also spreading the word verbally to students and staff.

There are also posters around the Angell College Center. You don’t want to miss out on the amount of food, live performances and enjoyment that will be held at the 13th annual President’s Gala. Having a night out on campus while showing support to PSUC be there or be square.
