PSUC group discusses ‘What a Man Wants’

Would you date a girl of a different religion? Would you date a girl with longer or shorter hair? KINKS (Kollectively Inspiring Naturally Kurly Students), the natural hair club whose mission it is to educate people about natural hair, will be asking these questions and more at “What a Man Wants” today in the Alumni Conference Room.

“It’s a panel of (15-16) guys giving their perspectives on women,” KINKS Public Relations Chair Natae Marrow said. “We want to listen and see what they want.”

Marrow said the panel of men was chosen from friends of friends and those who wanted to participate.

“It’s an opportunity to hear from the men, we want them to be honest and open,” KINKS President  Esther Chery said.

This is the second year the event is being hosted, as the club has just entered its second year as an official club sponsored by the Student Association.

KINKS has held other events like “Hair Chemistry,” where students had the opportunity to make their own hair products, and “You Can(not) Touch My Hair,” an event in collaboration with AKEBA.

Members from last year’s board came up with the idea for the “What a Man Wants” event.

“We wanted a man’s perspective (on women,) not just from TV or from other women,” Chery said.

According to the club members, last year’s event had a positive response.

“It was really successful, there were around fifty people in attendance,” KINKS Student Support member Sonia Bennett said.

“The crowd was really involved asking questions along with the panel being involved as well,” Marrow said. “It was a great turnout. We want to be more in-depth this year.”

The club strives to host a fun event where people will take something with them when they leave. “We want people to hear what each side has to say and listen,” Chery said.

Bennett says that the men comprising the panel are nervous but excited and have even taken it upon themselves to promote the event to people they know. “We want it to feel open to everyone,” Bennett said.
