PSUC grad charged with trespassing

Two female Plattsburgh State students reported the unlawful entry of their dorm rooms in Whiteface Hall in the early morning hours last Friday.

The first student came to University Police later that day, stating that at approximately 4:00 a.m., she awoke to find an unknown male leaning over her bed, attempting to kiss her. The female pushed him away and yelled at him to leave. The male turned away from her, pulling up his pants, and left the room.

After a short period, the female reported that the same male opened her door again and stood in the doorway until she yelled at him to leave again.

A short time after a campus-wide crime alert was dispatched by University Police, another female Whiteface resident reported that during the same period, a male entered her locked room. The male left after the resident yelled at him.
After a brief investigation by University Police, former PSUC student Woon Kheng Tan, 23, was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal trespass.

University Police Chief Arlene Sabo said Monday that the suspect entered Whiteface after following residents in, and that students are reminded to only grant access to other residents or those they are hosting.

As of Sept. 7, all residence hall office codes have been changed, all codes have been changed to every room in Whiteface Hall, and all code sheets have been removed from residence hall offices.
Further review of safety and security measures is being conducted by both the Housing and Residence Life Office and University Police.

“We ask every member of this community to consider safety and security as part of their responsibility and to assist keeping our campus safe by reporting suspicious and activities to University Police,” Sabo said.
