PSUC displays family qualities

The Plattsburgh State track and field team is all about uniting as one, working together in order to have outstanding results together. The Cards push and motivate each other at all levels to make sure their goals are met, and their bond keeps becoming stronger.

PSUC uses their chemistry as one of their best skills to help the team succeed mentally and physically.

Senior Kelly Siry said the Cards closeness and tight bond goes a long way for the entire team.

“Everyone is always very supportive of each other and excited when someone does well,” Siry said.

Last weekend, PSUC traveled to Massachusetts to compete in the Springfield Quad Meet, and there was a lot of excitement as many Cards were successful.

Senior Megan Schweizer ran in the 1,500-meter run, which resulted in a personal record time for her of 5:01.79. Schweizer also ran in the 800-meter run, which she raced across the finish line in fifth place with a time of 2:25.90.

Because of her recent success, which earned her SUNYAC qualifying marks in both races, Schweizer was crowned athlete of the week.

Schweizer said she was proud to be named athlete of the week.

“It’s really cool because I’ve been working really hard,” she said.

Overall, the Cards used their unbreakable bond competing as one, as they saw qualifying marks in all meets.

Siry competed in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.27. As a result, Siry finished in fifth place and reached the SUNYAC qualifying mark.

Junior Lauren Perschetz ran in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:16.69, resulting in first place, which qualified for the ECAC Outdoor Championship.

Freshman Hannah Despres ran in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:04.7, resulting in a SUNYAC qualifying mark as she finished in third place.

Freshman Samantha Regan ran in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.38, which resulted in third place.

Reagan said PSUC’s close-knit bond is leading to success.

“We’re really good at encouraging each other,” Reagan said. “We’re all friends, and we’re pretty close with each other. We’re like a little family.”

On the men’s side, senior Luke Potash competed in the 200-meter run with a time of 22.59 as well as the 100-metter run with a time of 11.25. As a result, Potash continued his outstanding season, hitting two SUNYAC qualifying marks as he finished both meets in first place.

In addition to Potash, junior Ethan Vinson competed in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.60. As a result, Vinson qualified for the ECAC outdoor championships.

Other results for the men included a first place finish by junior Zach Grandy in the 400-meter hurdles, and junior Paul Ford secured a first place finish in the triple jump.

PSUC knows its meet was successful, and the team wants all the positivity to continue moving forward in all its future competition.

“I hope we can have success for the rest of the season and everyone can reach their goals and keep encouraging and supporting each other,” Regan said.

As the Cards continue their outdoor season, they will travel to Troy, New York, this weekend to compete in the RPI Upstate Classic.
