Presidental candidate two plans to implement support systems on campus for students

SUNY Plattsburgh Presidential Candidate Anne Huot held a forum Wednesday night in the Angell College Center, as student athletes filled the Alumni Conference Room in anticipation of hearing her goal: creating a respectful, inclusive environment. “Think about how you can change the culture,” Huot said, “Learning happens everywhere.”

A Kean State University and University of New Hampshire alumna,  she “places high value in being, honest, and authentic in everything,” she said. Her intentions if elected is to open the campus to critical thinking, world culture, diversity, health and wellness, and more.

Huot discussed how her parents have always instilled a great sense of community and a need for education in her life. A first generation college graduate, Huot received a degree in Laboratory Science, opening the first research lab on the University of Vermont campus a few years ago. She also was a part of launching a comprehensive funding campaign at Brockport University.

“I have made it my mission to ensure the support systems exist in every campus that needs it,” Huot said.

“She said she’ll be in attendance at some of our sporting events,” Sophomore Gabrielle Rodriguez said. “She even asked us if we wanted to have dinner at the [college] president’s house!”

As students began to discuss their concerns about the administration involving a student racism protest that occurred last Feb. of 2018 on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus, Huot discussed  how she would focus on the students and community improvement.

“This is a time you can build a better educational opportunity for students from all blocks of life.” Huot said, in hopes of building diversity on campus.
