Cardinals keep scoreless streak intact

The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team took on Canton in a nonconference game, beating the Kangaroos 8-0.

PSUC scored twice in the first period as the outshot Canton 15-6.

Junior Anthony Calabrese scored the first goal for the Cardinals 7:07 in.

Mark Constatine scored his seventh goal of the season to give the Cards a 2-0 lead.

Luke Balehsta started off the scoring in the second period when he got a shot past Canton Goalie Louis Puig.

With just 3:25 remaining in the period Brandon Beadow would tally his third goal in four games, taking a shot from the blue line.

Then with under two minutes remaining, Kevin Emmerling one-timed it in from the crease past Puig.

PSUC would tally its sixth and seventh goals quickly in the third period when Connor Gorman would find the back of the net 2:29 in and Constatine would add his second goal of the game, giving the team the 7-0 lead.

That wouldn’t be all for PSUC tonight. Freshman Brandon O’Quinn scored the team’s last goal for his sixth of the season, bringing the final score to 8-0.

PSUC goaltender Brady Rouleau finished with his third-consecutive shutout making 20 saves and Canton goaltender Puig allowed seven goals on 33 shots before Christopher Marsillo took over and gave up one goal on seven shots.

PSUC has been able to go 189:44 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal. Lead by Rouleau, the PSUC defense has yet to relinquish a goal this month, while scoring 23 goals.

This was the first meeting between PSUC and Canton since 1984 as the Cards improve to 7-0-0 all-time against the Kangaroos.

The Cards (17-4-1) will not play again until Feb. 20 when they face off against Oswego in a rematch of the Cards home loss to them on Dec. 5. This game will also help decide who will be the top seed in the SUNYAC tournament starting Feb. 25.
