Breakfast boosts energy, kicks off day

When it comes to breakfast foods, many students don’t realize the importance of it and tend to skip it and going on with their day.

Not having breakfast can lead to fueling the brain and having long-term health benefits.

While giving students energy, breakfast can also startup up their metabolism and allow them to focus on school, work, or etc.

Everybody gravitates toward the idea that skipping breakfast is not that big of a deal.

Excuses such as, waking up late or having to no appetite, leads to the idea that there is no point of breakfast.

With the help of nutritionist, dietitian, and students, they show how breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day.

“Why is breakfast so important?” . Plattsburgh State’s Dietitian, Jeff Vallee, said that having breakfast “fills in the day”.

Depending on how active people are throughout the day may testify the type or proportion of breakfast that they should have.

For example, if they are going to be super effective, then a larger breakfast should hold you up to lunch time, whereas if they are going to be less active, then you make have smaller portions.

Vallee also made a correlation of breakfast and fire. Stating that “energy is like fire and needs to be replenished in which is the job of breakfast when stating the day.”

He also explained how people should have breakfast within an hour of waking up and that consistent breakfast helps with weight maintenance.

Vallee acknowledged how it may be difficult to wakeup early, eat breakfast and also making it on time for work, class. He gave quick breakfast meals that may full people up but also give them enough energy to start their day. “ Parfaits. Granola bars, and peanut butter and banana are quick breakfast meals that include carbon and protein.”

On the other hand, “some people get by without breakfast” said by Terrence Vence, a PSUC Nutrition and Dietetics professor.

Depending on the person, some people who skip breakfast can still work well, opposed to someone who eats breakfast regularly. But this may cause problems in the future. “Hunger can be a distraction” so without breakfast you may not do as well because you may be thinking about your stomach or certain foods.

“Keeping away from too much sugar but foods that are high in fiber” may be great breakfast meals. Foods that contain grains, or fruits can be light but also fulfilling.

Vance also said : “without breakfast it may interfere with work,” which can cause confusion and disturbance to your body and brain.

Concluding the positive aspects on breakfast, getting students point of view on the idea may be relatable in which they can give helpful tips of the importance of breakfast and quick meals to eat before class or while on their way to class.

Junior hospitality major Zouera Phelan, said that breakfast is her favorite meal of the day.

Since she works out regularly, it is important for her to have enough energy for her morning workouts and morning class. “ Oatmeal and fruits are my go-to meals because of the amount of grains and protein the meal has.” She also said that without having breakfast, she feels tired and less focus.

John Gunther once said, “All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast” Having a good breakfast gets you ready for the day while being attentive and having enough energy.
